| OBJECTIVES | ||
| The overall objective of the project was to strengthen processes that promote economic development of women and create environment for social change. | ||
| The specific objectives were: | ||
(i) establish Self Help groups which build self-reliance and self-confidence and provide them greater access to and control over resources; (ii) sensitize and strengthen institutional capacity of support agencies; (iii) increase income of poor women through income generation activities; (iv) developing linkages to credit financing; and (v) improve access to better health care, education and drudgery reduction facilities. The project was designed to nurture 50 Women Self Help Groups of Hosadurga Taluk according to the terms of reference given by KSWDC. |

We selected 29 villages which were economically poor, socially oppressed, male dominated, and belonged to SC-ST communities. We reached out to 1,318 families when we formed 75 groups for them. The women who were not able to save even single rupee, who had never stepped into any bank, who had never seen their own taluk headquarters Hosadurga, were able to save Rs. 24,16,177/- by the end of the SWASHAKTI Project. Internal lending was Rs. 84,01,567/-. . |
