Since Hosadurga is a drought prone area people often migrate to other cities and states to earn their livelihood. Mostly young boys and girls migrate to cities like Bangalore. According to the AIDS Nodal Officer of Chitradurga district P.C Kumaraswamy “2,527 people had visited the voluntary consultation centers by the year 2007 and 305 were found to be HIV positive. Sixteen people had died the same year of AIDS in the district, which has 320 HIV-positive people”. Seeing the danger of HIV/AIDS we wanted to educate the people of our taluk Hosadurga which is in the same district Chitradurga. |
The members of Fransican Sisters of Mary were working in Nagavalli of Chamrajnagar district. They came into contact with a HIV patient who died miserably because of AIDS. This was deep in the minds of sisters that they should give awareness to the people wherever they would work. So did they contribute to the people of Hosadurga Taluk by conducting street plays, talks, and awareness workshops. |
