| Joint Liability Groups |
The purpose behind the concept is to organise the poor, landless, small and marginal farmers through the formation and nurturing of JLGs and helping them in their integrated and sustainable development, empowering them and their families socially, economically, politically and educationally and involving them for promotion and protection of environment and ecology. . |
They form and function under the guidance of NISARGA in Hosadurga Taluk. The JLGs in Hosadurga have five to eight members in each group. They meet every week and make financial savings in the groups. They have bank account in the name of the representative and maintain all the registers for the same. NISARGA takes care of capacity building of the groups, bank linkages, linkage to other financial institutions and all-round development of the group members.. |
The JLGs have resulted in increased awareness among men. This has proved to be the better option to enhance the life of small and marginal farmers. JLGs have increased the sense of responsibility among these people. Since they meet each time, they share their difficulties in a common forum and render mutual help. |

| Membership and Functioning | ||
The members belong to similar socio-economic status, background and environment carrying out farming, allied activities or other non-farm activities who agree to function as a joint liability group. Five to seven members. |

JLGs function similar to SHGs concerning savings and loans. |
