Common Interest Group (CIG) |
Common Interest Groups (CIGs) are collections of members who have like interests and come together to share information and work cooperatively around some unifying issue. |
The overall purpose of the CIGs is to build upon the shared knowledge and experiences of the group to create resources, promising practices, and other opportunities to inform and advance effective practices. Our CIGs are resulted from the Project Sujala II (RIDF). The project required community based organisations for the effective implementation of the project. The members should belong to a common identity, here the farmers who have got land holdings be it small or big. The membership of Common Interest Group is compulsory under the Project Sujala II (RIDF). CIG is aimed at the development of land with the help of the members of CIG. Each CIG will consist a maximum of 20 members in it. CIGs are aimed at the development of livelihood of the farmers as follows: horticulture, forestry, dairy farming, fish farming, and sheep and goat rearing. In Hosadurga Taluk, we have 70 CIGs in 23 villages. |
The JLGs have resulted in increased awareness among men. This has proved to be the better option to enhance the life of small and marginal farmers. JLGs have increased the sense of responsibility among these people. Since they meet each time, they share their difficulties in a common forum and render mutual help. |

Activities of Common Interest Group (CIG) | ||
CIGs meet every week in their respective villages. Initially they make a list of the facilities each member farmer in the group is having in his land. They later discuss about the works that need to be done for the farmers. They take up the responsibility of collection of contribution and payment of the wages to the labourers under the project. They take steps to convince other farmers to implement the project in their land too. The executive committee discusses the issues and brings it to the notice of the higher authorities. |
